What is a Featured Event?
Featured Events are chosen by University Events and receive additional visibility on the University Calendar through placement in the Featured photo carousel and the Featured Events tab. While any event may request to be featured, those that meet the established eligibility criteria are more likely to be selected.
All Featured Events are required to have an engaging description and a custom uploaded image (cannot be the Localist fallback photo for your organization or event type).
Featured Event Criteria
Event Eligibility
All events have the ability to request to be featured. If your event meets the standards below, it has a higher chance of being approved for Featured.
Public Events (General Access)
Events that welcome broad participation from both internal and external audiences.
- Lectures, performances, exhibits, open houses, and cultural events open to the public.
- Alumni-focused events that also welcome students, faculty, or the broader community.
- Community engagement events hosted on or off campus.
Athletic Championships and Public Fan-Focused Events
Athletic events hosted by or featuring university teams that are open to the public and intended to engage a broader audience beyond regular season games.
- Post-season events, championships, or tournaments hosted by the university.
- Fan engagement events (e.g., pep rallies, tailgates) open to more than just the student body.
On-Campus Health Initiatives
Health-related events focused on improving wellness within the university and broader community.
- Health fairs, vaccination clinics, and wellness workshops open to students, faculty, staff, and/or the public.
- Mental health awareness campaigns or fitness challenges with public participation components.
- Events sponsored by campus health services, counseling centers, or university-affiliated hospitals.
Descriptions
- Featured Event descriptions should be engaging and encourage a patron to attend the event.
- On top of including the basic description information, we encourage Featured Events to include a few more sentences about the history of the event and any speakers attending.
- Is this is annual event? When/why did it start?
- What is the history of the organization hosting the event?
- Who is the speaker: what is their education, background, have they won any awards?
- Featured Events can also make use of the Speaker Profiles in the Localist software. Contact calendaradmin@appstate.edu to set up a Speaker Profile for an event.
Images
- Featured Events must use a custom uploaded image. This means that the requestor cannot use the automatically generated fallback photo provided by Localist for their event.
- Images must meet the basic Event Image Criteria.
- The focus of the image should be to the center-left. Use our Canva template to see how your image will look when Featured.
